Do you know Daikan?

Daikan is Japanese which means the coldest day of the year.

It's around January 20th.

The temperature is getting lower day by day, but we pass the 20th this month,

it may be getting warmer. I hope Spring comes soon!

You know what? Japanese Spring season is very beautiful.

Many food shops sell fried chicken on Cristmas.

I wonder about eating fried chicken on Christmas day.

Is it a common custom around the world? or only Japan?

Quebecois? Acadian?

May I suggest that you write something about Canada and it's regional variety in the Culture Forum. I bet it would be interesting to others. A unique history.

In this part of the country, for Christmas, we serve tourtière, ragoût de patte de cochon, cretons, sauce aux canneberges, bûche de noël, sucre à la crème, pets de soeurs et tarte au sucre!

By the way by irony, My Christmas is more like the one in Japan :). In a restaurant I ate sushi. They were very nice. And for home, I bought a chicken and roasted it. I've just had turkey for Thanksgiving day and diceded to skip buying another sizable bird. One of the Christmasy food was ham that was sliced on the plate and cut in cubes for Olivier salad.

Yeah you got to shoot them here too. They won't just jump in your freezer without encouragement. They'll walk up and bite you in the park, but it's illegal to just take one for dinner. They have to be taken on the wing. But they are tasty!

They are just as annoying here too. Mean and dirty wherever they congregate.

They're less trouble after they've been roasted with sauce.

In Canada, goose is everywhere, on the beach, on the road, in the parks, in the sky, but not in a store.

In Ukraine, goose can be bought in the market. But you should be careful to pick the right one whose meat will be tender. We knew a trick or two not be be wrapped around our little fingers;)

Not really here as well. Ham or turkey.

In Ukraine, it's goose usually, but where can you find a good goose nowadays :)

Today is the Emperor's birthday. So I had the day off work today.

Many people have been busy these days because of preparing New Year.
