To be able to do something means to have the ability to do it. Be able to is sometimes used in place of can or could. Instead of, "I can't go," you might say, "I am not able to go."

You can use be able to in any tense. Just change the tense of the verb be. For example, you can say, "I was able to see a movie last night," or, "He will be able to visit me tomorrow."

Interesting topic ! However one of my big questions is usually after a conversation there is a word wich is "though" , could be at the begining of the phrase or at the end , so exactly what does the word "though" mean AT THE END OF A CONVERSATION?

You can also say, "are you available for dinner on thursday?"..  or "I'm available to work on Friday if you need me"..  Kind of like a more formal version of "be able to"?
