We eat so many different kinds of food every day, it’s no wonder that our bodies are confused by some of them. It’s no fun when you have an allergic reaction to something you ate.

Food allergies can be very serious. Some common allergens, like shellfish or peanuts, can even kill the people who are allergic to them. Other people are only mildly allergic to foods and simply feel a little bit sick when they eat them.

No matter how serious the food allergy is, when you can’t have something, it makes you want it more. Just ask someone who is allergic to milk how good an ice cream cone sounds, and you’ll find out.

Sara has to be very careful about what she eats. She has an allergy to a very common food. Listen to her tell Mason about it in this health English lesson.

Sara:  Sometimes it’s such a drag when I try to go out to eat. I have a pretty major food allergy.

Mason:  That can be a real bummer. I count myself pretty lucky that I don’t. I mean, I can’t do spicy food, but that’s just because I’m a wuss.

Sara:  I have an allergy to gluten, so I can have no wheat, no rye, and no barley, but wheat is the main thing.

Mason:  What happens to you if you do?

Sara:  It just really messes up my digestion. It sort of throws my whole system off and my body can’t even absorb nutrients properly if I eat any.

Mason:  That’s terrible! How long did you take to figure that out? Or was it just something that happened out of the blue?

Sara:  I found out about 6 years ago, but my whole life I knew I didn’t want to eat wheat. I would, instead of bringing sandwiches to school, I would bring a little baggie with bologna in it or something. I just knew I didn’t want to eat bread.

Mason:  Well, I guess you knew, when you have control, but how do you avoid it in stuff? Packaged food is probably pretty easy, but do you just not eat street food or things where it might be sneaking in?

Sara:  I try to ask really explicitly if I go to a restaurant, and if the waiter says,”Oh, I don’t think that has wheat in it,” I need to say, “Can you go and ask the chef if it has wheat in it please.” But I’ve been pretty lucky.

Sara has a difficult time going out to eat because she is allergic to gluten. She can’t eat wheat or rye. It makes her sick.

When she was young, Sara didn’t know about her allergy, but knew that she didn’t like bread because it made her feel bad.

Mason wonders how Sara is able to find out if something has wheat in it. She says she sometimes has to ask the waiter to ask the chef.

Do you have any food allergies? Is it hard to avoid the foods you’re allergic to?

Hopefully, I don’t have any kind of allergy, but I have seen a plenty of them in different patients. One of the most common allergic reactions that people are involved are food allergies which is a true bummer because these folks usually have got the symptoms out of the blue. However, there is other kind of allergens which sometimes are fatal for people like bee sting. I saw a guy with this problem that he was brought to the hospital by someone. Unfortunately, he had been passed away when he was arrived although the had been stung  15 minutes before. That was one of the many sad story that has happened in my career practice in the hospital.

Jawsome, your allergy to sunflower seeds refreshed my memory. Severe reaction to this product transformed the face in a minute into a big swollen watermelon. Thanks God, the breathing pathways still got some air in. But, I’m afraid, if it’s not for the nurse who was nearby, that would be too late.

Allergy is a quite a weird thing. I’ve never had one, but I’ve been a witness of some harmfull effects cause by allergy. Usually it’s hereditary, but what I think it can be developed as well after a strong medication, severe illness. There’s nothing good in it. oh, just remembered. I’m milk intolerant, but buttermilk and ice cream in moderation is ok.

Remember Hitch after eating seafood.

A couple of years ago I had to eliminate all dairy products from my diet which of course caused some major changes in my eating habits. Weeks and weeks of many frustrations went by until I eventually mastered the learning curve of saying bye-bye to Mac & Cheese :) However, i didn’t find it hard to give up on butter, olive oil works great for me instead.

Sara is quite clear about  going to a restaurant and make sure that not even a grain of wheat should  by accident  have  fallen  in the food that she is being served.Otherwise, she might be in big trouble, so severe  is this  allergic.

Fortunately, I haven’t food allergy. Meanwhile once I had allergic reaction to wormwood. It was terrible! I hadn’t any drops which could helped me. My eyes itched permanently, without stopping. It became red and puffed. I remember that time with horror.

If renew the subject to food allergy and avoiding some foods, then it can compare with the diets and healthy eating. Any way we need to avoid those foods which we dream to eat for the safe of our life. In the first instance we have to avoid the allergen because it may cause to instantaneous death. In the second instance we have to eat useful foods and avoid unhealthy but tasty products because it may give constipation our organism that end up micromegaly and early death.

So we have to be strong inspite of the fact that all forbidden foods may seem more tasty and wishful:)

It is good to be able to eat any type of food without any risk of allergy as long as you like it. I don’t like to eat out unless I had to. I pity some people who prohibited eating some food while the do like it, that is really bummer…
