Hi Friends!
Last week at the Ebaby! office we had a big party. It was really fun to have friends come and celebrate the beautiful summer weather. The party went really well, and everyone had a great time, but it actually took alot of pre-party preparation to get things ready to roll Friday night.
Instead of driving all over town to find the best deal, Joe called some of the local grocery stores to get a price check on barbeque supplies.
This is a useful task because there are many times when it helps to be able to call a store for some information. If you want to do this, here are some instructions:
1. Call the store and make sure you are speaking to the correct person in the correct department, if the store has more than one service or product.
2. Once you are connected to the correct person, ask them your question.
3. Take notes on their reply, and if you have any other questions ask those as well.
4. Thank the person on the phone for their time once your questions are answered and say good bye.
Now you can hear Joe do this:

Arnold:  Fred Meyer Southeast Fine Jewelry, this is Arnold may I help you?

Joe:  Good afternoon Arnold. I’m trying to reach the grocery department.

Arnold:  Hang on and I’ll transfer you.

Joe:  Thanks.

(On Hold Music)

Les:  Fred Meyer Produce, Les speaking. How can I help you?

Joe:  Hi Les. I have a couple of questions to ask you on some items.

Les:  Yeah.

Joe:   It’s for a Barbeque that we’re having at work.

Les:  Yeah.

Joe:  Okay. Uh, can I have a price check on one bottle of barbeque sauce, one package of buns…

Les:  Uh, barbeque sauce runs about $2.50 a bottle.

Joe:  Okay.

Les:  A package of hamburger buns or hot dog buns?

Joe:  Yes.

Les:  It’s about… depends on how many a pack.

Joe:  Oh. Just, just uh twelve.

Les:  Twelve, you’re probably looking at the Fred Meyer brand,$2.29.

Joe:  Okay. And some Fred Meyer brand potato chips?

Les:  Fred Meyer brand potato chips I believe are about $1.99 a bag.

Joe:  Wow! You’re a wealth of knowledge. I really appreciate this. And uh, one last question, a twenty four case of Pepsi cola.

Les:  A twenty four case of Pepsi? Oh, I believe that’s uh, $7.99.

Joe:  Do you keep all of these numbers in your head?

Les:  No, on the average I’m giving you a, a real close estimate. Um, you can probably get two twelve packs cheaper that you could a twenty four pack.

Joe:  You have been a tremendous help. Thanks a lot.

Les:  Okay. Can I uh help you with anything else?

Joe:  Nope, that’ll be it.

Les:  Okay, you have a nice day and thank you sir.

Joe:  You’ve done a tremendous job.

Les:  Okay thank you! Okay bye-bye.

Joe:  Bye-bye.

Discussion

Joe did a great job getting his questions answered. He needed to know prices on some items for the barbeque, and he was able to do this by calling Fred Meyer, a local store.
Joe was very happy to talk to Les, who knew the prices of the items Joe asked about off the top of his head. You can hear by the tone of Joe’s voice how impressed he was of Les’ knowledge.
