Thanks, gkisseberth! Hekmer, your English is ok. Just keep at it ^^ I feel that this story is clearly meant to be miraculous in nature, because ants cannot communicate complex thoughts by any means, sound or no. So, not a scientific miracle, as it does not predict anything in particular about ants, but a spiritual miracle, focused on Solomon. If you've ever heard ants rustling around, you would think that was communication also. The fact that some species of ants, that apparently don't live in the Middle East, can communicate through some limited sounds does not imply that they can speak to people. That Gkisseberth was mistaken about ant communication is hardly a reason to assert that his larger point is incorrect.
Javamanju's point is that if you say something that has already been discovered is a miracle, it doesn't really count. Furthermore, since this type of story is already present in many religious and cultural stories from around the world many centuries before Islam, I do not think that interpreting this Surah as a scientific miracle is a correct viewing of the text. I am unaware of any Muslim scholar who was born before, say, 1900 that would treat this Sura as a scientific miracle either. Does anyone know otherwise? M_Honor - yeah, that's a problem with English interpretations of the Qur'an; it is difficult to replicate the genders. I have to disagree with your point, however. Most ants in a colony are sterile wingless females; there are only a few male drones that mate with the queen, and I think they stay underground. The females are the workers, soldiers, etc.
