John: So, you think we should hire an intern?
Derek: I think it’s getting busy enough where we might.
John: Yeah. Well who’ll manage them though?
Derek: Mmm. Maybe I will.
John: It’s such a great opportunity for people that are looking for experience.
Derek: I think so. I know a few people that have, ya know, had internships at really nice places and then ended up they got a job there permanently.
John: Yeah. Well, when I was in school that’s what I tried to do. I took some internships at different companies. And they did offer me a job afterwards. And so it gave me great experience and good contacts too.
Derek: Definitely. It’s always nice to go through that, sort of, apprenticeship.
John: Right. And for us, it would be nice because we’d be able to get a feel for somebody without having to hire them on as an employee yet. And if we liked ‘em we could offer them a job.
Derek: Yeah. It’s always a nice way to do it.
John: Yeah.

Interning is a really good way to get experience. In America, some internships are paid and some are not.
They are good to do as a student because you can often get college credit. It’s also a great way to get references and make contacts for when you start your career.
Do many people do internships where you live? Have you ever done one? What are the pros and cons of doing internships?
