The 1980s was a fun and remarkable decade. It was filled with punk music, the smashing of the Berlin Wall, tons of hairspray, and the very popular side ponytail. Fashion and music from the ‘80s are very unique. People in the United States love throwing ‘80s parties. If you get an invite to an ‘80s party, you need to dress up in your favorite ‘80s clothes.

You could wear a bright neon t-shirt with super tight stone-washed jeans. Put a few scrunchies in your hair and grab your jean jacket. You could even dress up like your favorite ‘80s personality. Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, or the stellar David Bowie would all make great additions to any ‘80s party. Don’t forget your shoulder pads!

Andy recently went to an ‘80s party and had a great time. Dominique is jealous! Listen as they remember all their favorite ‘80s trends.

Andy_H:  S-s-s-s A-a-a-a F-f-f-f Flashback! Dominique, I just got back from an ‘80s party and I had such a stellar time!

Dominique:  I’m offended, Andy! You didn’t invite me! Like, where was my invite?

Andy_H:  Well, I did bring some scrunchies that were party favors from it. You want one?

Dominique:  What?! Of course! Thanks!

Andy_H:  Great! Oh, it was so cool! They were playing hip-hop and then punk. I even saw a side ponytail.

Dominique:  Aah! What?! Oh, my gosh! Were they playing Kris Kross?

Andy_H:  I am…who?

Dominique:  Kris Kross’ll make ya…jump! Jump!

Andy_H:  Oh, yeah! They did play him!

Dominique:  Oh, my gosh! I am so jealous. They were my first concert.

Andy_H:  No way!

Dominique:  When I went, I wore backwards… What were they called? Overalls! Oh, my gosh! It was amazing.

Andy_H:  Did you do neon?

Dominique:  Yes, of course! Who wasn’t wearing neon back in the day?

Andy_H:  People that weren’t a part of the revolution, apparently. Well, I’ll tell you what. I know it’s a big deal, so next time I hear about that ‘80s party, I’ll let you know.

Dominique:  Please do!

Andy_H:  And also, next week there’s a ‘90s party. Want to come?

Dominique:  Of course!

Andy is singing the first few lines of the iconic ‘80s song “The Safety Dance” by Men Without Hats. He just got back from an ‘80s party, and he’s pretty excited. Dominique is offended that Andy didn’t invite her. She loves ‘80s parties! Andy gives her a scrunchy.

Andy tells Dominique that he had a great time dancing to all the ‘80s punk and hip-hop they were playing at the party. Dominique asks if they were playing Kris Kross. She says Kris Kross was her first concert. She wore neon with backwards overalls. Andy promises to invite her to the next ‘80s party.

Do you remember the ‘80s? What is your favorite fashion trend from the 1980s?
