Did you ever say something mean about another person? Although we all want to answer “no,” we have probably all said something that was mean at some time. For example, maybe you planned a wonderful weekend for your girlfriend. But when you got on the road, she dumped you. This would be a bad way to begin a romantic weekend! You would be very hurt. And you might want to bad-mouth your girlfriend when you talk to your other friends.

To bad-mouth someone is to talk about them with other people in a bad way. You might say, “My ex-girlfriend is so mean and rude!” You may want other people to be mad at her, too. You say these things even though you loved your girlfriend only days before. Often, people bad-mouth others when they are angry. Usually, they bad-mouth because of their own feelings and not because the other person is truly bad.

Andy, Kelsey, Jordin, and Dominique are trying not to bad-mouth Sheila, but they are all a little mad at her. Find out why in today’s soap opera.

Andy_H:  HELLO, PARTY PEOPLE!

Dominique:  SHHHHH! Kelsey is sleeping.

Andy_H:  Oh! Sorry! I’m just really excited for the show!

Kelsey:  What?! Are we there?! What?!

Dominique:  No! We still haven’t got on the road, yet.

Andy_H:  Hey, Kelsey! How’s it hanging?

Kelsey:  Oh, hey, Andy. How are you?

Andy_H:  Great! I mean… you know. Good. OK. Since I haven’t seen any of you since the party, I should let you know that Sheila and I broke up.

Kelsey:  We know, Andy.

Andy_H:  Oh.

Jordin:  Are you doing OK? I mean really?

Andy_H:  Well, I don’t want to bad-mouth Sheila…

Dominique:  Of course.

Andy_H:  But the more I think about it, the more I think it wasn’t very nice of her to dump me at the party.

Jordin:  I’d say it was more than not very nice. I think it was mean.

Dominique:  Well, I don’t want to bad-mouth Sheila, either, but it wasn’t too surprising. I mean, Sheila definitely does her own thing, in her own time, in her own way.

Andy_H:  That’s true. Very true. So, even though it really, really hurt, I’m really doing OK. So, don’t worry, OK?

Dominique:  OK.

Andy_H:  I’m just excited for our little road trip and excited to see Kelsey play some music.

Kelsey:  What?!

Dominique:  No, Kelsey! We haven’t left, yet.

Andy joins Jordin, Dominique, and Kelsey for the road trip to Kelsey’s show. He is very excited and sings his hello. Dominique tells him to be quiet because Kelsey is trying to sleep. But it’s too late. Kelsey is already waking up. Andy asks her how it’s hanging, and she returns the question. Everyone is quiet for a moment, and then Andy decides to let them know about him and Sheila.

Andy explains that he and Sheila broke up at her party. Of course, the ladies already know about this. Jordin asks Andy how he feels. He doesn’t want to say mean things about Sheila, but he says that it was mean of her to dump him at the party. Jordin agrees. However, Dominique isn’t very surprised. She knows that Sheila is her own person. Andy agrees. He is very hurt, but he is also doing OK.

Did you ever bad-mouth another person? How does it feel when people say mean things about you?

normally its not good behavior to bad-mouth another persons .along the life ,our families school teachers, valuable friends tell us to speak soft, sweet and true behind people.Especially if we had a good relation with someone ,we should pay attention our words.coz our words about him/her can hurt badly.after hurting someone ,to try recovering our mistakes are very hard.on the other hand,to bad-mouth shows our character, personality, quality.to be respectful to people and relations gives us inner peace .

Each bad word is a bad taste in our mouth .

The bad side of bad-mouth is it makes us feel bad and the good side could be that is feedback about our bad behaviors. Therefore, bad-mouth might be signal to us which we should try to change ourselves.

Yes, of course we all have already done it some time!

It is said when people say mean things about you, because the most part of times when it happens is because they didn’t get to know you properly!

There is an English group on WhatsApp with my students where nobody will bad-mouth about nobody, the only thing we want there is do our own thing, STUDY ENGLISH TOGETHER!
