College Football

College football is my favorite sport to watch. The season is short, so every game is very important. The players are talented, but they aren’t getting paid. This means they are playing for pride, not money.
My favorite college football team is the Oregon Ducks. I went to school there and I have followed them ever since.
Chad went to BYU and he is a big fan of their football team. He and I like to talk about both teams and how they’re doing throughout the season.
Here’s a conversation between Chad and I about our favorite teams. It’s a little difficult so good luck!

Chad

John

Chad: You know, the other day you were asking what I like to do. One of my favorite pastimes is just watching a good old football game. I heard that you went up someplace last weekend and saw one?

John: Yeah, I went down to San Francisco to watch, uh, my favorite team the Oregon Ducks play the California Bears.

Chad: What was the atmosphere like? I mean, down in Provo, Utah where BYU plays, the stadium’s big, students get crazy and wild and paint themselves on the face sometimes but there’s a lot of older people, old fogies, in the area just kind of show up and sort of damper the team spirit. What’s it… what was it like there?

John: Well I was really impressed. You know, the Ducks are doing really well these days and, um, there was just a ton of Duck fans there. When I pulled up to the stadium in my car I saw… I saw maybe five hundred people wearing green shirts and yellow hats and I didn’t see a single Cal supporter.

Chad: Yeah, well that kind of makes sense this year since Cal’s maybe only got one loss, uh, and, you know, Oregon is what, six and ‘0,’ uh, and BYU is six and ‘0’ too. It could be kind of funny to see if they end up playing each other.

John: Yeah, it’d be great to see these teams play. Then we could have some kind of inter-office rivalry between you and I. But to tell you the truth, Chad, I think the Ducks would kick a lot of butt.

Chad: Well, let’s put these two guys out on the mountains I think the Cougars would take on the Ducks any day.

John: You mean at Cougar Stadium?

Chad: No just the animals! The cougar against the duck!

John: Yeah, I have to say the Ducks… just the name the Ducks isn’t very intimidating but they’ve got a sweet team right now.

Discussion

How did you like that conversation? It was pretty difficult, so you probably had to listen several times. Chad and I get excited when we talk about football so we start talking faster. :)
It’s fun for us to compare our favorite teams. Of course I think if the two teams played, the Ducks would win and Chad thinks the same about the Cougars.
