Critically Endangered Ambhibian (White-Bellied Frog)

The German newspaper ‘Agrarheute’ says that in Lituana there currently is an extreme drought. About 30% of the harvest is lost and thrown away cigars can easily set the dry grassland on fire. Amphibians just dry out due to the fact that there just is not enough water anymore for all of them. Also the eggs of these amphibians and the offspring die if too much water turns to dust due to the heat.

A family from my neighborhood now made some changes in their front yard. They dug multiple small holes, filled the ground with rubble and sand and then filled these water-prove holes with water. Especially during sunny days these multiple, clean puddles look so nice. Also I’m sure they will attract many animals that use water as their habitat (frogs) or at least need something to drink.

Thanks for commenting! Yes, they may not be the most beautiful creatures ever to walk the earth, but don’t judge a book by its cover. They are an important part of their ecological system, feeding many fowl, fish, snakes and other predators and they feed on flies that otherwise would spread some dangerous diseases.
