When I was a boy, there was only a single digit population of these alive. Thanks to careful population management and strict laws restricting the reasons they nearly went extinct, the California Condor is now a viable population.
As a human, I am kind of proud of that.

Hey Elias,
You are welcome!
Yes, I’ve never seen them in real – I wouldn’t know of any zoo or park where you can see them -, but I already saw them in some of the documentary movies I watch every once in a while and there it indeed looked impressive when they spread their wings and took their flight. Also I of course have some books that contain impressive photos of Californian condors flying off.
However I keep wondering how long it will take for the Californian condor to lose its status as a critically endangered animal. I heard that thanks to reproduction-programmes there actually are quite a lot of Californian condors out there at the moment. The thing is that most of them haven’t reached sexual maturity yet and – although this of course is illegal in the USA – farmers even try to kill them.

Hi Elias,
First of all please let me apologize for not replying sooner. I told you what happened in one of my e-mails. Thus I hope you’ll understand that right now I have many things to settle.
Well, I see why you thought they were a subspecies of eagles, seeing how majestic they are. However – unless of course the book I got this from is outdated – they indeed feed on carcasses only as they are classified as scavengers and related to vultures. You see the bald head of this animal? Unlike most birds they don’t have any feathers on their head to avoid that blood and pieces of already rotten flesh could adhere to their head as that would be very unhygienic.

Really! The Condor is a kind of vulture? I thought it is a kind of “eagle”!
