‘GfbV’ says that since right-wing candidate Bolsonaro won the presidential elections in October – meaning that from next year on he is going to be the new head of state of Brazil – there have been more acts of violence against natives in Brazil:
>In Mato Grosso do Sul people attacked a Guarani-Kaiowa-settlement, destroying 35 houses and injuring 15 inhabitants. In the same state on the same day farmers attacked a non-violent anti-Bolsoro demonstration by native Terena.
>In Pernambuco a hospital especially for natives was burned down by people who simply harbored some hatred against natives.

Don’t you have that brand in the USA,too? Sorry, but I thought you did, because I found an English article about the production of Rama. Anyway, yes, you are right! Rama is just the brand! The product was margarine. It’s just that as far as I know everyone in Europe calls it Rama due to the brand instead of margarine.
As for the custom: Where I live there really is no specific buying-custom. Retired people or unemployed people may go shopping every day and some parents order their children to buy this or that almost every day, but there are many working people and university students who go to the food store only once or twice a week.
I think it’s nice how you, Joe and I exchange cultural, political or scientific information with almost every comment. Kind of an enrichment, huh!

Rama?
Is that like margarine?
We used to buy margarine but then we saw a doctor on tv who said that although imitations have lower fat content and usually lower calories, the real butter is nutritionally better for you, serving for serving. I personally think real butter tastes better so it was ok to have an excuse.
I have no idea if that’s true, tv is almost as reliable as the internet! But when they say something on tv you always hoped they’d say, it’s easy to use that as an excuse.
Chocolate is good for you.
Another TV truth.
The other day I was using my grocery bags to shop and I thought of you.
It occurred to me that while I buy a week or more worth of groceries at one weekly shopping visit, I have heard that the Euro custom is to buy every day for that day’s needs.
I don’t know if that’s true either, but if it is, it might explain the difference in bag usage. It’s a lot easier to manage many bags a time if the bags are built to do that job.

Private and actually not even real news, but still: The small, private cooking club I am a member of recently had to do some shopping. Among other things we needed margarine, butter or something similar to that. One of us wanted us to buy “Rama” due to the low price, but another member said no, because according to her the producer was not sustainable. The member who wanted “Rama” then referred to the box this “Rama” was stored in. It said that “Rama” got produced according to standards of the “Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil” and even got controlled by this roundtable. According to the other member researches that years ago even were shown on different news shows proved that palm oil controlled by the “Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil” also was responsible for native tribes getting chased off their lands, for damaging ecological-systems of the rainforest, for child-labor etc.
In the end we bought some organic butter.

Sungai Putris is a forest located to Borneo /Indonesia. It is unique, because it grows in a swamp making forest fires extremely unlikely. Also the forest is big enough to help fighting emissions and climate change. Also these trees house many critically-endangered orang-utans and are a tourist attraction. Due to the importance of this piece of nature Indonesia even has added a law that concerns this forest only. It says that you mustn’t take any wood from this forest…and you mustn’t grow anything in this area either. Yet the Indonesian paper-producing enterprise Mohairson Pawan Khatulistiwa is doing just that. They use methods to make trees dry out or simply cut them down as they want to grow trees there that are more fit for the purpose of making paper out of their wood. For unknown reason the police hasn’t reacted yet.
If you want to help the rainforest of Borneo and its critically endangered orangutans, you are invited to visit the following websites: “http://savetheorangutan.org/splash.html” and “http://www.iucn.org/”.
