While most people know about street children in Uganda or even about the so called ‘witch children’ Ugandans who have a disability usually don’t seem to get that much medial attention. Thus the newspaper ‘GEA’ now wrote an article about a school in Bukulula (Uganda). While it may not seem that extraordinary in the EU, Australia or North America what sets this school apart from other schools in Uganda is that it offers Ugandan children with a disability an apprenticeship as a carpenter, tailor or something agricultural. The organisation ‘Zinunula’ from Germany now also plans to build a primary school and kindergarden for children who have a disability, but may be too young to start an apprenticeship. Both are going to open in 2022. Contrary to some industrial countries regular schools in Uganda legally reject children who have a disability. Plus their mentality is a bit different, meaning that some families don’t even see why they should put money into the education of a son or daughter who has a disability. Some even go so far as to hide their children if they have a disability.
